About the Aurora Art League

The Aurora Art League functions in the City of Aurora, Illinois and its immediate vicinity.  The purposes of the Aurora Art League are:

  • To encourage and provide opportunities for those interested in all forms of creative visual art;

  • To promote high artistic standards;

  • To stimulate interest and understanding in art.

Membership is available to any applicant of eighteen, or more years, who is interested in art, whether professional or amateur. (See our application form.)

Since its inception, the Aurora Art League has continued its mission to stimulate interest and encourage opportunities in the visual arts. A weekly open art studio is held, so members can work on their current art projects together; sharing knowledge and support in a causal environment. Members are encouraged to show their work in one of the several locations where the league furnishes exhibits. Additionally, a scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving high school graduate to assist in furthering the study of art on a collegiate level.

Members should stay informed by attending the monthly meetings whenever possible.  Active participation is the key to the success of any organization, and no organization can survive without the help and involvement of its members.

ANNUAL MEMBERS SHOW

The Annual Members Show is open to all members in good standing.  Currently, the show is held at the Richard and Gina Santori Public Library of Aurora and coincides with the First Friday Art Walk in September.  An artist’s reception is held on that Friday evening and it is open to the public.  A $10 entry fee is charged per artist to help cover the cost of the reception.  Only newer/recent original works will be accepted (within the last year or two) and no work may be submitted more than once.  The show is judged and awards will be determined by a guest artist/judge. This event is the culmination of our purpose and existence and all members are strongly encouraged to participate.

ROTATING EXHIBITS INFORMATION

The ability to regularly exhibit and sell artwork at local businesses through the Aurora Art League’s Rotation program is a privilege not afforded to many art groups.  These businesses have provided the hardware and systems for hanging our work and therefore we must adhere to the framing requirements as described in the AAL Membership Directory in order to accommodate them.  Rotations are normally done three times a year:  April, July, and November.  A notice is sent to all Rotation members via email advising the dates and times for each location.  It is also discussed at the monthly meetings and mentioned in the monthly newsletters. If your piece is sold, replace it with another piece to fill the space.  Contact the site coordinator and advise them of the replacement.
